I love strolling aimlessly around Paris, particularly on a day as beautiful as yesterday. But sometimes even I need a little direction in life, a goal, an endpoint, something to aspire to. Yesterday I set my sights on 47 rue des Martyrs, the address of a glacier called Caramella.

Here’s what I suggest: Start at the bottom of rue des Martyrs and walk uphill, past the butchers and greengrocers. Stop at Arnaud Delmontel for bread or pastries. Have lunch or tea at Rose Bakery if you like.

Or just go straight for the ice cream. Yesterday I had medium cone (I cannot bring myself to order a small, ever) with 2 flavors. The gianduja was tempting, the salted caramel was faintly calling my name, and even the watermelon sorbet caught my eye. But in the end I went with coffee and hazelnut.
The coffee was good. Very good. But the noisette? Out of this world.
No, no. No need to thank me. All in a day’s work. (Er, “work”.)

C’est quoi: “speculoos”?
Jen: Speculoos are (is?) a Belgian spice cookie often served with coffee. Funny word, right?
Oh Barbra, I love your life! Thanks for sharing your favorite places…
