Monique: Bonne chance!

Bobby Jay: That's great to hear because the Dufour stuff is pricey, to put it mildly.

Brad: "Baking up a storm" is perhaps an overstatement..."Eating sweets like there's no tomorrow" might be more like it.

Patrick: Oatmeal? That's cruel.

I've heard of a similar Norwegian tradition wherein a single almond is hidden in a giant bowl of oatmeal for the children at a yuletide feast. The kids wolf down continuously ladled out bowls trying to be first to the reward. Alas, it is generally a device to stuff the kiddies so that the parents can enjoy the more adult fare-- goose et al. Kind of genius.

Happy Epiphany! Any holiday that includes a feast seems worth celebrating. Glad to see you are baking up a storm!

Barbara:

I can vouch for the Trader Joe's all-butter puff pastry. Comparable to Dufour's but much less expensive.

Lily and Shelli: There is really no need to make your own when every bakery is selling them. I don't know whose is best, but it could be fun finding out.

Jacques: You lucky thing, you!

Shelli: Definitely worth a try, and I will remember your invitation to me to invite you next time I have sweets to off load.

Happy new year, Barbra, Very cool of you to make your own!

I admit up front that I'm not going to make my own, but since I'm in France on Epiphany for the first time, I would love to know which patissier's version is the best so I can run right out and get it...unless you'd like to invite me over, of course...no, I suppose not...worth a try though, right?
