These sound delish! I stick too-ripe-to-eat bananas in the freezer and let them collect until I have enough to make banana bread, err, cookies.

Living in France, the butter-substitution-for-shortening question comes up quite a bit for me. My grandma’s sacred “oatmeal-coconut cookies” would normally require shortening, but when I made them with butter for a virgin french audience – I didn’t hear any complaints.
On the flip, I think any good little francais would notice if butter were missing, so for me, the decision is simple.

Absolutely these are just like oatmeal, particularly as I like mine with chocolate spirnkled on top, and peanut butter, which is pretty much just equivalent to the butter in your recipe, I’m sure!

And well done spreading the butter love – we all need a little bit of that!

But wait a minute, so you mean – eating desserts with oatmeal in them {pause} does not make for a wholesome, nutritious breakfast ? {puzzled and worrisome look} Oops.
