Carly: For me the decision is simple, too, particularly here in France where the butter is so very good.

Brad: I would do the same if my freezer were bigger than a shoebox...

These sound delish! I stick too-ripe-to-eat bananas in the freezer and let them collect until I have enough to make banana bread, err, cookies.

Living in France, the butter-substitution-for-shortening question comes up quite a bit for me. My grandma's sacred "oatmeal-coconut cookies" would normally require shortening, but when I made them with butter for a virgin french audience - I didn't hear any complaints.
On the flip, I think any good little francais would notice if butter were missing, so for me, the decision is simple.
Thanks for the dough chilling tip!

Kerrin: Yeah, I hate to be the bearer of bad news... Then again, these have to be more nutritious than a croissant, right? Right??

Hannah: Oatmeal with peanut butter and chocolate? I like your style.

Giovanna: A very good read!

Did you see <a HREF="http://civileats.com/2010/02/18/referendum-on-the-deli-menu-at-saul%E2%80%99s-restaurant-and-delicatessen-what-is-tradition/" rel="nofollow">this story</A> about tradition and food on Civil Eats? It raises the question of whether traditions should be static or change...good read, I thought.

Absolutely these are just like oatmeal, particularly as I like mine with chocolate spirnkled on top, and peanut butter, which is pretty much just equivalent to the butter in your recipe, I'm sure! :)

And well done spreading the butter love - we all need a little bit of that!

Don't you just love those openers, "don't freak out when I tell you this, but...." ! Oy vey ! ha ha !

But wait a minute, so you mean - eating desserts with oatmeal in them {pause} does not make for a wholesome, nutritious breakfast ? {puzzled and worrisome look} Oops.
