A lovely little portrait, Babs, and I loved reading it. I can only imagine the night of revelry that paper speaks to...

Wonderful post, I love reading stories like these, and always feel so privileged to be let in.

Makes you wonder what snippets in the boxes in the basement will one day speak to my kids (hmm....should I do a little editing, or let them just discover my past stories!).

Thank you, everyone, for your thoughtful comments.

AnEyeforDetail: Welcome! (and thanks to Cowgirl!) My father and I were fairly close, though not as close as we should have been. The push and pull between parent and child is complicated...

Wow, I don't think I'll find the words to express how much I enjoyed reading this piece. I will now dream about telling the same story about uncovering a box of undiscovered objects of my sister's. I pictured you dusting off an old treasure chest - a scene right out of the movies - and a true treasure box this is. The debauchery score sheet is too funny. Thank you for sharing this all with us, your writing is wonderful and captivating. Think I'll go revisit some of my own travel tokens collected over the years...

Hi: Just came upon your blog through Twitter, and I think cowgirlchef..
this was a really nice and very touching story. I'm curious: were you and your father close? I too came across some pictures of my father when he was a pilot and learned things I never would have known. Too bad it was after he was gone...
Thanks for the very personal story.

Another awesome piece, and another fascinating glimpse into your family history. I so appreciate the way you SEE, and then, by your writing, help us to see, too.

Your literary voice should be seen in many publications so everyone can enjoy your warm, keen, gentle perspective. I so enjoyed reading this.
